Emoji Reactions

Emoji reactions give your audience a lightweight way to express themselves during a live event — just like reacting in a video call, but for in-person sessions.

Attendees tap an emoji in the Action Bar to send a reaction. Available emojis: 👏 ❤️ 😂 👍 🔥 🎉

When a reaction is sent:

  • A floating emoji animates across the screen on all connected devices
  • The reaction count increments in the event footer
  • Reactions appear on the Display View (projector screen) for the whole room to see
  • A subtle haptic vibration confirms the tap on supported devices

Reactions are anonymous — there’s no attribution to individual attendees.

Reactions are designed for high throughput. When hundreds of attendees react simultaneously:

  • Reactions are batched in 200ms windows in the backend to prevent overwhelming connected clients
  • Batches are broadcast to all connected devices (attendee, admin, display) via WebSocket
  • Reaction counts are tracked in memory and periodically persisted to the database
  • The system handles thousands of simultaneous reactions without performance issues

You can choose how reactions appear on attendee devices in Event Settings:

FormatBehavior
FloatingEmojis float up from the bottom and fade out. High visual energy.
BarA compact bar shows recent emoji counts. Subtler, less distracting.

From the admin dashboard, go to Event Settings → Interactions:

  1. Enable reactions — Toggle the Reactions permission on
  2. Choose display format — Select Floating or Bar
  3. Reset reactions — In the danger zone, you can clear all reaction counts (useful for testing)
  • Floating reactions work great for high-energy sessions (keynotes, entertainment, celebrations)
  • Bar format is better for quieter sessions where floating emojis might be distracting
  • Reactions give speakers real-time feedback on audience energy — encourage speakers to watch for reaction spikes via the Presenter View
  • No sign-in required — anyone with the event link can react
